On our way to Siena last summer, the Italian and I happened upon the quaint little town of Luccignano. Sitting perched on hill, Lucignano is a sleepy Tuscan village with an interesting street plan. Four streets, in the shape of concentric rings, encircle the hill where Lucignano sits, complete with a wall enclosing everything. The town was in "built in the round". This can be seen in the sight curve of the homes built in the historical center.

It is not a big tourist draw, but worth the stop if it is "on the way". I felt like we were the only non-locals in the town. The Italian and I were watched, as we perused the cobble stone streets, by the curious town elders nesting in windows high above our heads.

The town was small, charming and full of vagabond cats, snoozing in the late afternoon sun.

After a pleasant walk and a quick gelato, it was time to move on to Siena.
